Lao Cai: 30,000 students stay at home due to frost


As the temperature dropped to under 6 degrees Celsius, public schools in mountainous districts of Lao Cai province closed on January 10-11, and nearly 30,000 pupils stayed at home.

Frost on a branch on the Lao Than mountain, Bat Xat district 

At 7 am on January 11, the local temperature was recorded at 1.9 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degree Celsius lower than that of the previous day. 

Hill areas around Mount Fansipan in Sapa district and Lao Than mountain in Bat Xat district were covered with frost.

Kindergartens and junior high schools in Sapa, Bat Xat, Si Mai, Bac Ha, and Muong Khuong will resume their activities when the weather gets warmer.

As it was not that cold in Lao Cai City and the districts of Van Bao, Bao Yen, and Bao Thang, no local school has to be closed.
